Biofeedback can be helpful for understanding how your body reacts to stress, and learning how to find balance. The process involves providing you immediate feedback about what’s going on within your body.
Your sessions take place in a relaxed environment. We will attach a painless sensor to measure your heart rate and you’ll see it graphed on a computer screen in front of you. You’ll then be guided through some breathing, meditation or imagery exercises.
During and after the exercise the graph of your heart rate will be explained to you and you’ll be able to see how your body reacts to different types of breathing or mental exercises.
You’ll be given instructions on how to practice the exercises between visits, typically 10-20 minutes per day. As your skills improve, you’ll be challenged to perform the exercises in more challenging situations. It is helpful to have sessions weekly for 4-6 weeks while you are learning your new skill, to monitor your progress and assist you through obstacles.
An initial consultation is required before treatments to obtain your medical history and determine which therapies are best suited for you.
